I played my first ever online match with a friend. It was a Free For All, but we promised not to attack each other.
It also was one of the most interesting games I ever played.
My friend was attacked by the Japanese and had one city captured. I then had 2 cities captured, which reduced me to just my capital, and me being locled in a peninsula. At least I wasn't attacked anymore. We were both convinced we were going to lose, and I was ready to start a new game, but my friend didn't want to, so we played it through.
I built 3 more cities, set out on a great Science output, stole a few Great Persons with Spies. I was one of the last to get Gunpowder, but was the first to get Modern Infantry and Artillery, and I was the one to build Leonardo's Workshop. I steamrolled the Japanese with Artillery (and Modern Infantry to protect them), sweet sweet revenge, but eventually had no choice but to accept peace because I really needed the Democracy.
We were expecting my friend to win an Economic Victory, but I came from behind and won a Technological Victory, because we can rush production of the Space Station. It took me 3 turns to build the Space Station, and 6 years for it to arrive to Alpha Centauri.
The game took about 5 hours, btw. I had the Spanish, and my friend the Aztecs. Next time I'll play the Greek or the Romans.
